Wearturf® rubber reinforced turf

Harvesting Wearturf® The employment of rubber reinforcement in commercial turf is a recent innovation. Even though we advocate the use of Crown III™ to prevent the necessity for returfing, we appreciate their will always be areas that require this action. The reinforced turf is a dwarf rye, fescue mixture and contains 20% by volume of the rubber crumb.

The specification is :-

A root zone of loamy sand, with 20% rubber crumb by volume at 25 mm thickness. The seed mixture is 40% dwarf rye Aberimp & Abereif, 40% Barcrown slender creeping red fescue and 20% Limousine smooth stalked meadow grass mixture. It is cut at 25mm thick.

The advantages of employing rubber crumb in turf are:-

  • The elimination of surface wear areas.
  • Reduction in compaction leading to improved aeration and drainage.
  • The appearance of the area will be improved.
  • You are able to incorporate rubber reinforcement into the vulnerable areas without the necessity of top dressing.

We also have available small quantities of a Football grade of turf on an 80/20 Mansfield sand rootzone, using predominantly dwarf rye. This contains more Rubber crumb as it is cut at 40mm and supplied in 10-12metre rolls.

The use of rubber crumb as a top dressing is covered by the European Patent EP 0788301 B1, which applies to the use of any elastomeric material i.e. Rubber, on activity turf. The patent is infringed by the user, so care needs to be taken by those employing this type of product or providing others with advice. We operate under a license from the Patent holder and the Licensed product is Crown III™.
